Mr. Dadhiram Bhandari
Consul General of Nepal in New York
Consul General Mr. Dadhiram Bhandari is a senior career member (Joint Secretary) of the Nepal Foreign Service. He assumed the office of the Consul General of Nepal in New York on 31 May 2025. His consular district covers the nine States in the north-eastern side of the United States of America, comprising New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Pennsylvania. His overall mandate encompasses the works relating to the promotion of economic, commercial, cultural, educational and other interests of Nepal and the protection of the overall interests of the Nepali national living in this region as well as pursuing a robust economic partnership between Nepal and these states.
Prior to his New York assignment, Mr. Bhandari worked as a member of the Sagarmatha Sambaad (Mt. Everest Dialogue) Secretariat, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers of Nepal since January 2025. The Sambaad is a permanent dialogue forum established by the Government of Nepal in 2025 to deliberate on key issues of international, regional and national significance. Prior to that, he served as a member (Under Secretary) of the formation team of the Mt. Everest Dialogue Forum since October 2024. Previously, he was in London on sabbatical as a Chevening Scholar at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, to pursue a postgraduate course on International Studies and Diplomacy from September 2023 to September 2024.
He served as Director for Administration in the Ministry from April 2021 to September 2023, overseeing human resources planning, capacity building, placement, and resource management. Previously, he was on deputation to the Secretariat of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as Director, representing Nepal, for three years. From 2016-2018 he served as Under Secretary, Northeast Asia Division and Regional Organization Division at the Ministry. He also served at the office of the Foreign Secretary from 2015-2016. He was the Consul at the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa, Tibet, from June 2010 to June 2014. Prior to that, Mr. Bhandari served as Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN in Geneva from 2006-2009. Mr. Bhandari joined the Nepal Foreign Service in April 2005. He also volunteered as a search, rescue and rehabilitation team member for a few months in the remote part of Nepal following the 2015 Nepal earthquake.
Mr. Bhandari holds an MPhil in Public Administration from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu and an MA in International Studies and Diplomacy from SOAS, University of London. He received the Chevening Scholarship of the UK Government, the Rising Public Leaders Programme (RPLP) fellowship with Oxford’s Public Service Award (March-April 2023) at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, and a Diplomatic Fellowship to the South Asian Diplomats on Contemporary Global Issues (August-September 2015), Australian National University, Canberra.
